Where has the time gone?!

My little guy turned 3 months old on the Fourth of July. Wow! And he is so big! 25 inches and over 14 lbs already.

I haven't had much time for anything other than my little man lately. But he is currently taking a nap so I thought I'd add an adorable Independence day picture to the blog!

Baby Has Arrived!

Today, my son is 3 weeks old. That is such a bizzare sentence for me to say! I am still amazing by this little guy and I am loving this new adventure. Very thankful that my husband was able to take 3 weeks off of work too while we are still learning how to be parents.

Bennett was born April 4th at 9:44 pm, weighing 8lbs 13oz and 22 in long (a big boy!). Labor was very long, they didn't think I could birth such a big baby but I did it!

Any way, here are some pictures of my adorable little man.

Love him! Ok, I gotta get back to gazing at him for hours!

What's been up

Wow, it has been a while since I've done a post. I would like to say that my lack of posting is due to the fact that I've been getting lots done, but it's not.

Things got crazy with finishing up school and then the baby shower, but then after that I haven't had much going on. Just a bout of laziness I guess.

After my 35 week check up, I got really sick for a few days. Its getting super difficult to sleep at night, so I guess I am still recovering from that.

We did make it to 37 weeks yesterday, yay! That means he is not a preemie. But then he scared the crap out of us last night and decided he wasn't going to move. Normally, as soon as I lay down at night he decides to do some acrobatics, but last night nothing happened. We tried everything we could think of to get him to move, laying in different positions, drinking ice water and juice, flashlight on the belly, giving him a little jiggle, walking around in the cold. Nothing.

So we went to the hospital at midnight and his heart beat was strong. After I had been sitting there with the monitors on for a little while he started going crazy and you could see my belly moving all over the place.

Hopefully that is the only scare that he gives us during the rest of the pregnancy.

So today is the baby shower at Hubby's work, yay. I should mention that I used to work there too and am not so thrilled to be going back there. But it's a double baby shower, another guy that works there is having a little girl about a month behind us I think.

Here is what I made for them:

The pinafore pattern is from bevscountrycottage.com

The little booties are from ravelry.com

The headband is made with a half-double crochet chain stitch and the same flowers from the booties.

I covered some regular dress shirt buttons for the back from creativejewishmom.com

She's going to look like a little ballerina

I also added one of those flowers to the front of the dress

I hope they like it! It is overly pink and girly for me, but since its a baby I think its ok.

I've got to go get my baby shower on now!
Happy Thursday!

Football Blanket

Here is a football blanket I made from this tutorial at Happy Together. So cute and easy to make!

I used brown minky, white fleece and purple hounds-tooth flannel for the back. It's super soft.

This is why I used purple, my husband picked it because he is a Vikings fan.

So our baby is all set for football season already, thanks to his Granny for buying him this cute onesie set. It should fit him when football starts up again too.

This took me between 3 and 4 hours from printing the pattern to finish sewing it. Yay for finishes!

My Funny Valentine

I have been working on lots of stuff, back and forth because I get bored very easily. Hopefully soon I will have some nice finished projects to share. But for now I will just tell you about my Valentine's Day.

First, let me start by saying that my husband and I aren't big on Valentine's Day.  While it is nice to show your appreciation and love for each other, we like to do that throughout the year, not just on one Hallmark holiday.

However, I am a crafty person and any excuse to make something is a good one for me! Now, we agreed not to do anything this year besides our traditional Valentine's dinner (I'll get to that in a minute) and I had school in the evening so we weren't going to get much time together.  So I just made him a little Valentine.

I didn't add our faces because I had a feeling I would mess up and ruin it.

Ok so there is a long story behind this, but I'll just keep it short by saying that this is a drawing of a picture of us from when we were falling in love.  It is the first picture of just the two of us and it makes me happy.

Here is the original picture - July of 2007

So, he got home from work, I have him his card, we talked and snuggled on the couch for a bit, then had an early dinner.  Want to know what it was?

Ta da! Our traditional Valentine's Day dinner!  Six Valentine's ago, my now sister-in-law(-in-law as I like to call her to be silly) so graciously flew me out (I was a broke college kid... still am I guess) to California from Florida (Yes, we were long distance for almost a year in the beginning) on Valentine's Day to surprise my honey.

Here is a picture one of his coworkers took when I surprised him at work. (I had to dig deep into my email to find this pic!)

My wonderful sister-in-law(-in-law) offered to make reservations for us on the same dinner cruise that her and my brother-in-law were going on.  But I didn't really have the money and didn't want her to spend any more on us than she already had.  That left us on Valentine's Day with no reservations anywhere.  So we stayed in and had what was available in his apartment... Lucky Charms!  We made it all cute and mushy by exchanging marshmallow hearts and all that.  And because we aren't big on the extravagant wining and dining-ness, we have had that same meal every year since.

Now here is the crummy part of my Valentine's Day...  We knew I was going to have class (two actually) so it wasn't a big deal.  Early in the day, my teacher sent out an email saying that she had a doctor's appointment to have some scans done at 4 and just to be safe she was pushing our first class (both of my classes are with her) back from 6 to 6:30.  Cool! That means I get an extra half hour with my hubby before I have to go to class!

How did we spend that time? Making a grocery list. I know, we are just so romantical that way.

Since I've been pregnant, the only thing that I would say I really CRAVE is a smoothie.  Just about every day.  Unfortunately, there are no smoothie places (that Google or I are aware of) within 45 minutes of where we live.  Sure there are places that specialize in other things and will make you a smoothie, like McDonald's (ick) or that frozen yogurt place that I love but their smoothies are more like milk shakes (its just not the same... Baby wants what baby wants!).  I know, its crazy and unfair! I am considering giving up my career goal of becoming a teacher to open up a smoothie franchise in our town.

Ok, the point to all this is that I wanted a smoothie and couldn't have one so I settled on a Frappe Mocha from that icky McDonald's place.  (I'm pretty sure its the only thing I've had from there since I've been pregnant and I think this was only my 3rd time having it.)

Alright, so I drive the 30 minutes it takes to get to the school campus... only to find out that class has been cancelled! WHAT?  Turns out, (our teacher was there) she cancelled our second class and for the first class she advised us to meet with our groups before we went home.... Um, why tell us we are having class at a later time just to turn around and cancel it (on Valentine's Day!)?  It frustrates me the most because it was not worth the hour drive to chat with my group, something I could have done via email or the phone. Ugh.

Anyway, at least I get to go home and spend more time with my hubby.  This time, we spent it in the baby's room.  It's pretty much finished now!  Last weekend we got a small, three shelved bookshelf and a bench/ottoman that also serves as a toy chest.  My father-in-law bought us a new mattress for the crib (the crib is almost twenty years old, who knows how old that mattress is? Plus it was stored in a garage for a while).  We finally put the last of the wall decals up (some stars).  Oh and my Paddington Bear (that is older than me) got vacuumed off and put in the baby's room, yay!

Oh and Guster thinks this is his room and that the giant dog is his too.

Around 10:30, we got in bed and read some books to the baby.  We laid down to sleep around 11.  And I laid awake.  I got up to go to the bathroom a few times.  And laid awake.  Around 2, I still had yet to even come close to falling asleep, so I got up and ate some crackers.  And then I laid awake.  Sometime between 3 and 4 I got up and got into the recliner that hubby put in our room to help with my frequent heartburn (even though that wasn't the issue this time).  And I sat/reclined awake.

Hubby got up around 6 to get ready for work, so I got up and make him lunch.  Then I laid awake.  I think I finally fell asleep around 8 this morning.  I tossed and turned for maybe 3 hours and then woke up with that feeling that I wasn't going to be able to go back to sleep.  So I got up.

Apparently, if you never drink caffeine and then have a Frappe Mocha, it keeps you (and your squirmy wormy baby) up for 14 hours.  I. AM. NEVER. HAVING. CAFFEINE. AGAIN.  I don't usually drink it, if I have soda (which I rarely do) its Sprite, I don't drink coffee or tea.  The most caffeine I get is from chocolate.  I had a Frappe Mocha just last weekend, but I started drinking it at 2 in the afternoon while we were out shopping all day.  I thought 6:00 would be early enough to be able to sleep, but I guess I was wrong.

Anyway, that was my Valentine's Day.  Some good, some bad.  Hope you had a wonderful day full of love!

Baby Boy Softbook

I finished the softbook for my baby boy!  It's not perfect (I have never done appliques before, so keep that in mind!) but I like it a lot.  I got inspired by this totally awesome tutorial from Lella Boutique.  I used a few of the designs she had and added a few of my own with a couple extra pages to my book.  I think I've been working on it off and on for about three weeks.  If I make another one, it will not have as many tiny pieces, that's for sure!

I have thrown it in the wash to give the frayed edges some extra texture since I took these photos

I'm happy with it.  It is nice and thick and has a few different textures in it.  And it doesn't look horrible!  I was nervous that I was getting in way over my head with this one, but I think I did pretty good for a newbie.

Happy crafting!

Bearplanes!

My husband finally got the finishing touches on the baby's room done this weekend and we moved the furniture back into place (well, he moved the furniture and I gave him my moral support!).  We put a few decorations up and I am loving the way it is looking!

I just have to say what an awesome job hubby and my sister did painting!  It was so hard for me to stay out of it because I love painting and all that.

Here are some progress shots...

My sister can't take a picture without making a silly face...

So here is the final product (or at least what we have so far).  Oh and side note, we got these really adorable wall decals that go with the Baby Aviator bedroom set from Lambs and Ivy and we had a hard time getting them to stick.  My brother has the same things for my nephew's room and they worked just fine because their walls are smooth.  Our walls have texture to them, so the decals would stick but then start to come off.  Our solution was to use a little bit of glue (the tiniest drop of Roman's Seam Repair in a few key places) and it created a smoother surface for the decal to cling to without damaging our walls.

That little table in the corner is going to be moved out because it isn't baby safe, we want to get some kind of bookshelf and perhaps a toy chest with a bench seat on the lid.  There are also star appliques to go up and probably a picture or two.  But for now, I love it!
